BOARD RULES

     His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Solicitor General, pursuant to subsection 3(6) of the Parole Act, is pleased hereby to approve the revocation by the National Parole Board of the National Parole Board Rules approved by Order in Council P.C. 1971-662 of 6th April, 1971 [SOR/71.151], and to approve the annexed Rules respecting meetings of and proceedings before the National Parole Board made by the National Parole Board in substitution therefore.

RULES RESPECTING MEETINGS OF AND PROCEEDINGS
BEFORE THE NATIONAL PAROLE BOARD

   Short Title

1. These Rules may be cited as the National Parole Board Rules.
 
Interpretation
 
2. In these Rules,
  "Act" means the Parole Act;
  "Board" means the National Parole Board established by the Act;
  "Chairman" means the Chairman of the Board;
  "division of the Board" means a division of the Board established by the Chairman pursuant to subsection 5(1) of the Act.
 
Meetings of the Board
 
3. (1) The Chairman may from time to time, call a general meeting of the Board to discuss and settle such matters as are necessary for carrying out the duties and functions of the Board or of a division of the Board.
    (2) In addition to any general meeting called pursuant to subsection (1), the Chairman shall, on receipt of a written request signed by nine members of the Board, call a special meeting of the Board.
    (3) Each member of the Board shall be furnished with an agenda for each general or special meeting of the Board not later than two days prior to the meeting.
    (4) The Chairman may call an emergency meeting of the Board at any time.
 
Registrar
 
    (5) The Registrar of the Board shall keep a record of all meetings of the Board.
 
4. The Registrar of the Board shall cause every release of an inmate on parole or temporary absence that is effected by the Board to be recorded.
 
Division of the Board
 
5. Subject to any regulations made pursuant to the Parole Act, a division of the Board may carry out any of the duties and functions of the Board as are specified by the Chairman.
 
6. Where a division of the Board is required to conduct a hearing pursuant to the Parole Regulations, it shall ensure that the director of the institution in which the hearing is to be held is informed of the name of the inmate whose case is to be heard and the date on which the hearing is to be held at least seventy-two hours before the hearing.
