SEARCHES


23.1 (1) Searches - The superintendent of a correctional institution may authorize a search, to be carried out in the prescribed manner, of,
 
 (a)
the correctional institution or any part of the correctional institution;
 
 (b)
the person of any inmate or other person on the premises of the correctional institution;
 
 (c)
the property of any inmate or other person on the premises of the correctional institution;
 
 (d)
any vehicle entering or on the premises of the correctional institution.
      (2) Contraband - Any contraband found during a search may be seized and disposed of in the prescribed manner.
      (3) Same - For the purpose of subsection (2),
  "contraband" means,
 
 (a)
anything that an inmate is not authorized to have,
 
 (b)
anything that an inmate is authorized to have but in a place where he or she is not authorized to have it,
 
 (c)
anything that an inmate is authorized to have but in a quantity that he or she is not authorized to have it, and
 
 (d)
anything that an inmate is authorized to have but which is being used for a purpose for which he or she is not authorized to use it.
